Once Upon a Bubble …
Often referred to as “The Bubble Lady” by people who have attended my presentations, I LOVE sharing bubble experiments and bubble resources with teachers! Bubbles 101 sessions are hands-on, hands-wet sessions full of actively engaged participants and laughter can often be heard ringing out from our classroom. Bring a colleague to join in as you explore and experiment, and don't forget a camera, because you are going to want evidence of your accomplishments! I have always loved bubbles because they have a magical quality that even grown-ups find irresistibly fun and the play is contagious.
I used to collect bubble toys, even as a young adult, which explains my decision to earn my preschool through sixth grade teaching degree. That was a long time ago. Now I’m a mother of three, wife to one, teacher to many, have my master’s degree, am a National Board Candidate and have spent over 20 years teaching, yet I still love to play with bubbles.
Bubbles can be magical, but now I enjoy watching the sparkle in the eyes and smiles of others enjoying the bubble experiments. Conference participants have the opportunity to play and become invigorated by ideas and activities they can take back to their classroom and do with their students. While it seems as though we are just playing, through these “experiments” children learn about following rules, sharing and being kind. There is higher level thinking and questioning through experimentation and exploration, as well as problem solving happening. Beginning scientific skills are being developed as well as math, reading and writing concepts being reinforced. After all isn’t play the best way to learn?!
